I’ve installed free parental controls on our PC, to monitor the activity of our 10-year old. His older sister, who’s now 17, was allowed to use the PC and the TV without any form of control – other than simple visual supervision, and she survived just fine. However, she was the one who brought this free software to my attention, warning me that it might be wise to start using it. As a matter of fact, I believe we could all use it – the entire family. We all tend to lose control on the Internet, especially when discussing something we feel strongly about – and we said some things that we came to regret. But you can’t take back what you said in real life, and on the Internet, it’s even worse, it stays there forever. I lost a friend because I accidentally made public one of her dark secrets – so maybe I should use controls on myself first.
